Message delivered by President Higgins on the importance of social distancing to the parents of students in our schools.
https://president.ie/en/media-library/news-releases/statement-from-president-of-irelandfollowing-his-signature-of-the-health-preservation-and-protection-and-other-emergencymeasures-in-the-public-interest-bill-2020 President Higgins is urging young people to respond in a generous way to the Health Service Executive’s advice on measures to alleviate the spread of Covid19. This further reinforces the pronouncements of An Taoiseach, Leo Varadkar, other government ministers and health officials on the responsibility of all to adhere to social distance guidelines and to respond to HSE advice at this time of national emergency. Students are reminded that they can play their part in the national effort to curb the spread and the worse effects of the Covid-19 virus. Schools are closed to students at present to prevent the spread of this highly contagious and potentially lethal virus. By avoiding assembling and socialising in groups, students will be playing their part in supporting the national health campaign. Further to the statement from the State Examinations Commission on the State exams last week, they have published an FAQ for candidates on their website. https://www.examinations.ie/misc-doc/BI-SE-67826275.pdf
There is important information for all pupils on our plans during the enforced school closures as a result of the Covid-19 virus.
March 12th 2020.
Dear Parent, An announcement was made this morning by the Taoiseach Leo Varadkar TD about the closure of schools, pre-schools and further and higher education settings, for a period until 29 March 2020, to support efforts to contain the spread of Covid-19. This will take effect from 6pm this evening, Thursday 12 March. This is in line with the advice of the National Public Health Emergency Team. All pupils and students, from pre-school to third level are urged to practice social distancing, and to minimise physical contact with each other, to help avoid the spread of Covid-19. This should include minimising social contact, avoiding meeting up and ensuring to keep physical space between them. Parents and guardians are urged to support their children to maintain this approach. In order to minimise the impact on teaching and learning, CBC will continue to plan lessons and, where possible, provide online resources for students. Any student who needs their password changed can e-mail a request to [email protected] The temporary password will be CBC12345. Users will then be requested to put in their own password. CBC will prioritise supporting exam classes to continue to prepare for State examinations. All students have been requested to take their books and learning materials home with them this evening. We would ask you to remind all students that while they are off school, they are not off school-work and they should endeavour to work at home for the hours that they are missing in school. Details regarding oral exams and coursework projects will be issued in due course by the Department of Education and Skills. CBC will remain open to phone queries on Friday March 13th. We are all deeply conscious of the impact that school and education setting closures have on students, on families and on the wider community. However this is a necessary and proportionate measure that the country is taking as a pro-active measure to help contain the threat of Covid-19. Further updates will be issued via the school’s Twitter account and posted to the school’s website. Thank you for your patience. Le gach dea-dhuí Gerry Duffy School Principal March 12 th 2020 |
