The Business Department of CBC Monkstown is committed to preparing students for a rapidly changing world by expanding each student’s knowledge, experience and skills in business.  We believe the knowledge, skills and ethics taught are essential for dynamic, life-long participation in a global and informational society—promoting success in one’s personal life, college study and career choice.

Business is offered in CBC as an optional subject at junior cert level. The junior cert business syllabus is divided into four sections, as follows:
Section one   The Business of Living
Section two    Economic Awareness
Section three  Enterprise
Section four    Information Technology.

In second year students get the opportunity to exercise and demonstrate their entrepreneurial skills by taking part in the student enterprise awards.
Congratulations to Alex Holmes and Joe McCabe who came in second place in the Dun Laoghaire-Rathdown student enterprise awards and to Tom Wall who came in first place and then progressed to the national finals held in Croke Park.

You can find more information for the student enterprise awards on the following website.

At leaving cert level Business separates into 3 subject areas:

Entry into the senior cycle subjects of Business, Economics and Accounting is in no way affected by the level undertaken at Junior Certificate.  In fact, it is not necessary to have taken Business Studies at all.

The skills learned in business subjects have a wide range of practical applications. What is learned here can prepare students for successful careers in marketing and management jobs, for all clerical, administrative and business careers, for advertising and executive jobs in industry or apprenticeships, for civil service and local government jobs, among many, many more.
